We're spending 21 days during the month of January focused on prayer + fasting as a church family.

 

21 Days of Prayer + Fasting is a time of being intentional in prayer, believing that God will move in powerful

ways and grant wisdom and give guidance for the new year.  The goal is to prioritize our relationship and dependence on God, eliminate distractions, and refocus our eyes and our minds on Him. 

There are many types of fasts so it's important to know your body and your options.  Most importantly though,

seek God in prayer and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you before and during your fast.  We've included brief descriptions of the types of fasts you might choose to participate in below.

We're asking all those who choose to participate to select three days during the month for this purpose.

We're looking forward to 2020 and all that the Lord has in store for you personally and for Riverside Church!

Complete Fast

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water and light juice as an option.

Selective Fast

This type of fasts involves removing select elements from your diet.  A Daniel Fast is an example of a selective fast.  During a Daniel Fast you remove meat, sweets and bread from you diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast

This type of fasts involves abstaining from eating any type of food at a specific time of the day, either morning and afternoon or sunup to sundown. 

Soul Fast

This is a great option if you don't have much experience with food fasts or have medical issues that prevent you from fasting food.  You might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast.
